Jamie Dornan was not the original actor for the “Fifty Shades” role of Christian Grey. It was Charlie Hunnam who was supposed to be in the movie with Dakota Johnson, but he backed out at the last minute which means that the actress also knew that he would be his leading man that was why he was sort of confused when she suddenly had to work with someone else.
As per Variety, what caused Hunnam to drop out from the movie was not the erotic-nature or sexual content of the E.L. James’ novel-based film. It was learned that conflict in schedule was the main reason for his exit in the movie with Dakota.
“Oh, it was the worst professional experience of my life,” Hunnam told Variety. “It was the most emotionally destructive and difficult thing that I’ve ever had to deal with professionally and it was heartbreaking.”
His casting in the “Fifty Shades” movie with Dakota was announced in 2013, and shortly after his exit, Irish actor Jamie Dornan was revealed to be his replacement. Dakota admitted that she was surprised and confused after learning about the switch. But nevertheless, she has no problem with the change of her co-star who will act as Christian Grey.
“I think it was his schedule conflicted. He was… busy,” Cosmopolitan quoted Dakota as saying when asked to comment on Hunnam’s departure and Dornan replacing him.
At any rate, despite the big change in casting, “Fifty Shades” became a big hit worldwide. It proved that Jamie Dornan was a good pick for the role of Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. The duo’s popularity also shoots up due to the erotic movie franchise and fans were clamoring for their team up even after the “Fifty Shades” film series has ended.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have yet to star together again in a film. Fans want them back together even if in other projects, so there is a huge possibility of them acting in the same project again.
