“Days Gone” has been delayed so many times since its 2016 reveal that zombie video game fans have started losing hope that it is ever going to be released. Until recently, PlayStation 4 owners were hoping that the Feb. 22, 2019 release date was final. It turns out that the developers have another delay up their sleeves and this time, it could be out of fear of “Crackdown” and “Anthem.”
In a recent blog post over at the PlayStation Blog, it was announced that instead of the pre-scheduled release date, “Days Gone” will now be launching on April 16, 2019. The reason provided is the usual industry talking point of polishing the game further. However, publications have their own take on the factors that caused the delay.
“We recently decided to move the release of Days Gone from the crowded February timeframe to April 26, 2019. While the studio is eager to see Days Gone in the hands of fans, Bend Studio will take the opportunity to further polish Days Gone,” the post reads.
For those who might not even know what “Days Gone” is about, it’s basically a zombie survival game set in an open world with a protagonist who rides a motorcycle. One of the biggest selling points of the game is the hordes of zombies that are actually capable of running towards the player en masse. Think “World War Z” types of zombies instead of the “Resident Evil” kind.
As Engadget points out, however, the delay conveniently places “Days Gone” out of the sphere of influence of titles like “Crackdown” and “Anthem,” both of which are set to launch in the same month. By releasing the game in April, instead, the zombie survival shooter would be the biggest title to come out during that period. Basically, it won’t have any competition.
