DeMarcus Cousins has been heavily criticized by NBA fans after he chose to sign with the Golden State Warriors, a team that’s already stacked with talent. After joining the Dubs, the talented center looked to be regaining his previous form prior to being plagued by his Achilles injury
But after going against the Los Angeles Clippers this playoff season, DeMarcus Cousins once again suffered another setback, this time involving a torn quad. The injury sidelined the 28-year-old for the remainder of the playoffs.
Now, it seems that DeMarcus Cousins’ time with the Dubs will be coming to a close as there are rumors circulating that he’s going to ship to either the New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Lakers. The source of this narrative came from Ken Berger of Bleacher Report.
Not that any of this is surprising. It’s already been established that the best offer the Warriors can give DeMarcus Cousins after his one-year deal is 6.4 million, a 20 percent increase to his current pay. The question now becomes: are the Knicks and Lakers willing to take on someone like Boogie?
For years, DeMarcus Cousins has been the subject of discussion within the league for two major reasons. First is he’s injury prone, making him an unreliable asset to the team that could acquire him. While the center is undeniably talented as a player, that’s no use if he gets sideline time and time again.
This sends a clear message to general managers that they’re rolling the dice if they add DeMarcus Cousins to their roster. The second issue with Boogie is his attitude. It’s a well-known fact within the league that Cousins disrupts a team’s chemistry inside the locker room, which then resonates on the floor.
One of the evidence supporting this claim is the fact that DeMarcus Cousins wasn’t receiving phone calls last year as teams are wary of him due to his volatile attitude. And while the center did mellow down with the Warriors, his reputation is expected to precede him when his contract expires with the Dubs. It would be interesting to see which team contacts Boogie once that day comes or if he’s going to suffer the same experience he did last year when his availability was met with silence.
