‘Deadpool 2’ may feature Kyle Chandler in the role of Cable. Original comic book creator Rob Liefeld recently addressed rumors of his casting. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Davis has also been linked to the part of Domino.
Chandler is the most recent contender to play the character Cable in Tim Miller’s sequel to the 2016 blockbuster hit ‘Deadpool’. The 50-year old actor is best known for his roles on various film and television projects such as ‘Friday Night Lights’, ‘Argo’, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, and ‘Carol’. However, his possible casting has been met with online backlash.
According to Cinema Blend, prominent comic book writer and artist Rob Liefeld addressed the rumors of Chandler’s casting saying, “I don't know Kyle Chandler. I don't know him. I don't know if he's ever going to play Cable, but we would be so lucky to have an actor as talented as Kyle Chandler, who has been in Martin Scorsese movies... Kyle Chandler is one of the best actors in Hollywood. People trip over themselves to work with him. If, by chance that rumor was true and the production was lucky enough to get somebody as talented as him, I would just trust in the people that gave you Deadpool to figure that out for the best.”
He also suggested the hashtag #TrustInTim in support of Miller’s casting decisions for the upcoming sequel. Liefeld is credited with the creation of the Marvel comic book character Deadpool alongside writer Fabian Nicieza. Deadpool first appeared on ‘The New Mutants #98’ published in 1991.
Cable is known to be both an enemy and ally to the Merc with a Mouth. In the original comic books, Cable is the son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey’s clone Madelyne Pryor who later joined the X-Men. He possesses the powers of telepathy, cyberpathy, and psychokinesis and is endowed with superhuman endurance, speed, and agility.
Other actors linked to play Cable are Liam Neeson and Stephen Lang. According to Lazy Gamer, Fox reportedly wanted to tap Neeson for the part but Miller considered otherwise. Lang also took to social media to campaign for the role but later cast doubts on whether he would end up with the part since a possible involvement would lead to scheduling conflicts with other projects.
Meanwhile, Mackenzie Davis is also being eyed to play the part of Domino for the sequel, according to an article on Yahoo! Style. The 29-year old Canadian actress is best known for her work on the romantic-comedy film ‘The F Word (What If)’, where she was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She also starred in 2014’s ‘That Awkward Moment’, 2015’s ‘Freaks of Nature’, and 2015’s ‘The Martian’.
Davis’ involvement as Domino is yet to be confirmed. Her possible character Domino is a former mercenary turned member of the X-Men in the original comic books. She was the result of a top-secret government breeding program that sought to create the perfect weapon. Domino is endowed with the powers of probability manipulation and is a skilled marksman trained extensively in combat techniques and martial arts.
‘Deadpool 2’ is a yet untitled action-adventure and comedy film scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on January 12, 2018. It is intended as the sequel to the 2016 film of the same name starring Ryan Reynolds in the lead role as Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool.
Miller’s first film was a commercial and critical success, earning $783.77 million worldwide against a production budget of $58 million despite its R-rating.
