The launch of Bungie’s sequel to the massively expensive Destiny 1 is almost here and the recent beta for the game gave players a hint of what they can expect. More details about the game are still flooding in as well, including the fact that Destiny 2 will not be supporting third-party software. The creators of the game also had a recent sit-down to answer a few questions.
In a recent interview with BGR, community manager at Bungie David Dague provided some insights regarding the more limited nature of the Destiny 2 beta compared to that of Destiny 1. Supposedly, this is to ensure that players will get more surprises when playing the full game and is not an indication of anything wrong with the title.
“We’re definitely trying to get into the habit of letting the game surprise and delight the people who play it,” Dague said. “For us, with Destiny 2, now that the world understands the player experience, now that they have a sense of what they can anticipate from the world of the game, and what paces we are going to put them through on their path from taking their first steps into the world to becoming a legend in the eyes of the other players in the game and the community.”
In related news, Bungie is also taking some extra precautions against hacks and cheats by limiting access to the game’s codes, Gamerant reports. With Destiny 2 coming to the PC, there’s an increased chance of data mining and other worrisome activities. As such, third-party applications will not be supported.
Some applications that will be affected include Game Capture, which is used for streaming gaming sessions. Software that adds overlays to the game will not be supported as well, which will include applications that display frame rates and notifications.
