Being an android in Detroit: Become Human is set to come with a lot of difficult choices, many of which will involve complex moral issues. Players will basically be placed in a position where, as those that can essentially be considered tools and property, they will need to decide on certain matters from the perspective of something owned that has the potential to rise above its owners.
Publications were recently given the opportunity to try the game out and running through its first few hours. As PlayStation Lifestyle notes, while the game puts players in the shoes of machines, the title has unmistakable human elements in it that makes the robots seem so much more humane than their organic counterparts.
Detroit basically lets players control three different androids that are going through different scenarios. These androids are named Connor, Markus, and Kara, each of which offers something unique and interesting to players as they progress through the game.
A clear theme that is embedded in Detroit is the matter of the moral dilemmas that humans have to face on a daily basis, with themes that include injustice, domestic abuse, and neglect being prominent elements that shape the experience of the players. There is also the matter of consequences for each choice that players make, with branching results and pathways that go along with each decision.
Anyone who has played any of the studio Quantic Dream’s other titles will already be familiar with this format. As with Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls, choices will always shape how the story evolves and progresses.
Much of the narrative in the game is also centered on the divide between the android and the humans, Time points out. Between characters treating all androids the same to characters being accused of loving androids more than humans, there’s plenty of tension in the different story arches to go around.
