The Walt Disney Company was said to have fired its TV content chairman in the latest leadership shakeup. It was reported that Peter Rice has been ousted and replaced by the company's television entertainment head, Dana Walden.
According to Fox Business, sources revealed that Rice was removed because he was "an ill fit with Disney's corporate culture." In another report, it was mentioned that the decision to fire the executive was pure business and part of a strategy.
It was also clarified that the move has nothing to do with Rice's personal behavior, stressing it was a business tactic. As the head of the TV content, Rice managed Walt Disney Company's original entertainment and news programming for its cable, streaming platforms, and broadcast networks. Under his leadership, Disney General Entertainment created, produced, and marketed more than 4,500 hours of programming per year.
Walth Disney Company confirmed that Rice is leaving through a news release posted on Thursday, June 9. The mass media firm's chief executive officer, Bob Chapek, further announced that Dana Walden is taking over the role of Rice as the TV content chairman.
"Dana is a dynamic, collaborative leader and cultural force who in just three years has transformed our television business into a content powerhouse that consistently delivers the entertainment audiences crave," CEO Bob Chapek said in a press release. "Her well-earned reputation for championing creative talent and developing programming that truly captures the cultural zeitgeist has resulted in hit after hit.
The new content chief also issued an official statement for her new assignment at Walt Disney Company. She said it is a pleasure to be assigned a new task and promised to lead the team as best as she could.
"It is an incredible honor to be asked to lead this amazingly talented team—they are truly the absolute best in every respect—and I am grateful to Bob for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Walden stated.
Meanwhile, it was noted that the announcement of the executive shakeup coincides with the company's ongoing political feud with Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, over the passage of the Parental Rights in Education bill.
