The long-running conflict between Israel and Palestine can potentially reach its end through the intervention of the United States. Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has reached out to Donald Trump, telling him that he wants a fair solution on the Palestine conflict.
The Guardian reports that King Salman and Trump spoke on the phone last month, following the normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel, making them the third Arab state to do so. King Salman also expressed his gratitude for Washington’s push to support peace in the region, and said he wants to see a fair and permanent outcome on the conflict regarding Palestine, who expressed their opposition to the UAE-Israel deal.
King Salman said the fair and permanent outcome for Palestine should be based on the Arab peace initiative that was proposed in 2002. The proposal details that ties with Israel will return to normal in exchange for a statehood deal with Palestinians while Israel completely withdraws from its territory that was taken over during the 1967 Middle East War. Saudi Arabia has recently allowed flights between the UAE and Israel, including allowing Israel airlines to use its airspace.
Aside from King Salman and Trump, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Trump’s son in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner have already spoken about the need for both Palestinians and Israelis to continue negotiations that will result in long-lasting peace in the region.
Meanwhile, recent revelations about Trump came in over the weekend. It has since continued over the past several days, from the report revealing Trump’s disparaging comments about the fallen US soldiers and recently from claims made by his former fixer Michael Cohen in his new tell-all book.
In Cohen’s book titled “Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump,” he details what he thinks is the reason why Trump has expressed admiration for Russian president Vladimir Putin. One of those reasons is money, and Trump has reportedly thought of Putin as “the richest man in the world by multiple.”
Aside from money, according to Cohen, Trump admired Putin for his ability to control an entire country and run it like it was a personal business. Cohen also writes that Trump was “mesmerize” by the Russian president’s total authority.
“Locking up your political enemies, criminalizing dissent, terrifying or bankrupting the free press through libel lawsuits - Trump’s all-encompassing vision wasn’t evident to me before he began to run for president,” wrote Cohen.
