In the midst of his reelection campaign, President Donald Trump is faced with the challenge known as coronavirus. The White House just announced that Trump will be donating his paycheck to the efforts to combat the disease.
The New York Post reports that Trump has donated his quarterly paycheck of $100,000 to the coronavirus efforts. Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham revealed that Trump sent his paycheck to the Department of Health & Human Services. Trump is the third President to turn down his salary, the previous ones being Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy. This donation is also on top of his quarterly gifts to the Treasury Department.
Trump previously requested a $2.5 billion for coronavirus efforts. However, he has agreed to accept the $8.5 billion that the Democrats are offering. The White House budget officials said that they believe the larger amount would help the country’s efforts in the long term, perhaps years. Nevertheless, Trump is not done yet with trying to keep the coronavirus situation under control as he may be spending the next few days visiting health institutions such as the Vaccine Research Center of the American Health Institute as well as the Viral Pathogenesis Lab in Maryland.
As of now, there are almost 100 cases of coronavirus in the United States, with seven fatalities. However, experts have warned that hundreds more may be infected throughout this time. Covid-19 poses to be the biggest challenge for the Trump administration, as they are continuously pressed with questions regarding their response and whether or not they are following the protocols that are laid out as preventative measures.
During Trump’s North Carolina rally, the president stated that those kinds of questions were unfair to him, reports Raw Story. Trump accused the opposing party of trying to politicize the pandemic during his speech, where he usually takes this as an opportunity to air out his concerns to his supporters.
“We’re actually helping a lot of other countries where they have some very, very big problems. So we have our professionals in constant touch. I’m in constant touch with some of the leaders and helping them out. But the political attacks from the Democrats really must stop. We’ve got to all work together on this one to safeguard our people,” said Trump.
