Donald Trump is finally responding to Jimmy Kimmel’s hosting at the recently concluded 2017 Academy Awards last Sunday. The Independent said Kimmel, who hosted the Oscars, has made many comments about Trump’s actions, including the travel ban he imposed on against citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries and his diss on “overrated” actress Meryl Streep. Kimmel, at one point, tried to engage in a Twitter feud with Trump during the ceremony.
In a “Fox & Friends” interview aired on Tuesday, Deadline noted Trump’s possible explanation on why he didn’t engage the late-night host. He said, “Look, it just seems like the other side, whenever they’re losing badly, they always pull out the race card. I’ve watched it for years. I watched it against Ronald Reagan, I’ve watched it against so many other people. And they always like pulling out the race card. In fact, I did much better than many other … Republicans in the last election. I did much better with Hispanics, I did much better with African Americans.”
Kimmel appears to have responded back to Trump, by declaring the Tuesday episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “Trump-Free,” Entertainment Weekly reported. This is an unusual departure for a late-night host. Stephen Colbert talked all things Trump on his show’s post-congressional address edition.
In a press release, the show said that there will be no mention of Trump in any form at all. It read, “With the past two years dominated by talk of Donald Trump, Jimmy is announcing a much-needed break from discussing the president and his administration — at least for one night.”
