Several anime series have recently concluded, but new titles have also premiered in time for the summer programming. “Dragon Ball Super” has been expected to return this season as well, but there are no official updates to back up this anticipation, so far. On the bright side, fans have received some good news on other aspects of the franchise such as a new movie and new manga chapter soon.
“Dragon Ball Super” returns in summer 2019: True or false?
Some months ago, a rumor started to spread online that “Dragon Ball Super” is slated to return with all-new episodes in July. The month has arrived but, unfortunately, series creator Akira Toriyama and Toei Animation did not announce anything new about the anime series.
Back in March, a couple of reports from Geekdom101 and YonkouProductions claimed that “Dragon Ball Super” anime series is slated to come back in 2019, specifically in July. Both are known insiders for anime and manga news with a fairly credible track record. So both their reports were easily taken as a confirmation by many fans.
However, official sources were quick to dismiss it. ComicBook reported that a representative of Funimation has reached out to them to say that stories about the supposed return of the anime series in 2019 were “false.” Meanwhile, Toei Animation gave IGN the following statement, “We can only say that this is not true at the moment. We never mentioned or made any announcement about more episodes to ‘Dragon Ball Super.’” But YonkouProductions seemed to have reiterated the same rumor in May.
Now, the fact is that the first week of July is over and no official promotional materials for the return of “Dragon Ball Super” on anime is released. This could be another telling indication that the series will not return, at least, this month. If the producers are aiming to make a 2019 comeback, they still have time to do it within the last quarter, but nothing is set in stone yet.
“Dragon Ball Super” returns in but in the manga and movie theaters
While there is a drought in anime series updates, fans can catch up with the “Dragon Ball Super” manga, especially since chapter 50 is confirmed to be released on July 20. It picks up from a huge cliffhanger where the current main antagonist, Moro, appears to be invincible and cannot be defeated even by the Grand Supreme Kai.
Meanwhile, it was also confirmed last month that the next “Dragon Ball Super” movie is in the pipeline. Considering the box office success of “Dragon Ball Super: Broly,” it was an announcement that was not totally shocking.
