‘Dragon Ball Super’ Movie to Bring Back Broly; Toei Animation Casting Villain’s Upgraded Version

Dragon Ball Super

“Dragon Ball Super” movie is set to premiere in theaters in the last quarter of this year. Fans would be delighted to know that when the film hits the cinemas, they are in for a treat as the movie’s producers are bringing back a favorite villain that went on a hiatus for a while.

Based on a report by Otakukart, the “Dragon Ball Super” movie will mark Broly’s comeback. His return will be a remarkable one as well because it was noted that he will be given a makeover and will don a new ensemble that is more Saiyan-like.

Toei Animation also confirmed Broly’s inclusion in the “Dragon Ball Super” movie. Through a social media post, the anime creator, Akira Toriyama, announced the antagonistic character’s return. He added that an epic face-off is in the works for Broly, Goku and Vegeta.

Apparently, it was Broly’s popularity that landed him a role in the “Dragon Ball Super” movie. Knowing how much fans love the petite villain, one of Toei’s editors suggested to include him in the cast, and Akira Toriyama readily agreed.

Broly’s Previous Appearance in “Dragon Ball”

Broly has already appeared in a number of “Dragon Ball” anime. He was in the villain in 1993’s “Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan,” 1994’s “Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Second Coming” and “Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly,” which was also released in ’94.

According to Akira Toriyama, he watched these old flicks to get ideas of how to transform Broly while keeping his super Saiyan image in the “Dragon Ball Super” movie.

Broly's Character Upgrade

Fans can expect to see a new Broly as the animators are currently doing some rework not just on his appearance but on his character too. This means that Broly is going to be reborn and would be called Parallel Broly, Forbes reported.

Premiere Date

“Dragon Ball Super” movie is coming to theaters in Japan on Dec. 14. The release to Noth American cinemas will follow shortly, in January 2019.
