‘Dunkirk’ actor Harry Styles has reportedly formed a great friendship with co-star Jack Lowden on the filming set. The former 'One Direction' member has also impressed director Christopher Nolan enough to get more screen time as well as lines.
According to Hollywood Life, Styles found himself a new best friend in co-star Jack Lowden during filming of Nolan’s upcoming historical drama film set in World War II. An unnamed source said, “Harry and Jack have also been getting along smashingly. They spend the most time together off camera and are already talking about other projects they would like to work on in the future with each other.”
Lowden is a Scottish actor best known for his performances in theater, namely ‘Chariots of Fire’ in 2012, as well as in Richard Eyre’s adaptation of ‘Ghosts’ in 2013. He also went on to star in British television and feature films including landing leading roles in BBC One productions ‘The Passing Bells’ and ‘War & Peace’.
Meanwhile, the source added, “Harry has been crushing it on set of his new film… He has been getting along with all the cast and crew, who all love how humble the superstar is acting on set. He is not behaving like a diva at all, no entourage, just a sweet guy.”
Styles was cast to play a young WWII soldier in the new film, which will serve as his acting debut. Behind-the-scenes photographs from the filming set in Urk, Holland posted on the Daily Mail showed the former 'One Direction' member without his signature long curls. He was dressed head to toe in military garb as he and his cast mates were filmed doing a scene at a port.
According to The Mirror, the 22-year old English 1D singer and songwriter impressed Nolan enough to get more screen time as well as parts of dialogue. An insider revealed, "Chris already had great faith in Harry's acting abilities and that's why he gave him a role in the first place, but he's surprised everyone with how natural a performer is. He really commits to the part."
The source added, "It just made sense to increase his screen time. He's a natural in front of the camera and of course having one of the biggest pop stars in the world attached to the project is a huge plus. Originally Harry was given just a little dialogue but the kids a natural and Chris rewarded him with more."
Another source from the filming set revealed that Style’s didn’t get extra treatment nor security personnel despite his celebrity status. The pop sensation was apparently “easy” to work with and was amiable to everybody on set.
Joining Styles and Lowden are veteran actors Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, and Mark Rylance. The film is set in the time of the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the harbor of Dunkirk, France during World War II.
‘Dunkirk’ is written, directed and co-produced by Christopher Nolan. Emma Thomas is also serving as producer while Jake Myers and Greg Silverman are executive producing. It is produced under Warner Bros., Syncopy, and RatPac-Dune Entertainment.
