‘Dunkirk’ recently unveiled its latest teaser trailer ahead of the scheduled release for July 2017. Christopher Nolan’s newest war drama stars Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy in yet unnamed roles. Meanwhile, a smirking extra seen in the new footage managed to gain notoriety and became an internet sensation following the trailer’s debut.
According to Vanity Fair, Warner Bros. recently unveiled the latest teaser trailer for director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming war drama inspired by the real events of the infamous Dunkirk Evacuation during World War II.
It was reported that the teaser trailer was supposedly exclusive to screenings for David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’ but was leaked online prompting an official premiere on YouTube. The teaser featured footage of soldiers on a boat watching for enemy aircraft. It was a short yet intense clip of soldier ducking in terror amidst loud noises overhead.
The film stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, James D’Arcy, and Jack Lowden among others. It is also former 'One Direction' member Harry Style’s acting debut on the big screen. Nolan’s film is about the dramatic evacuation of allied soldiers from Belgium, Canada, Britain, and France from the French seaport of Dunkirk as they are surrounded by German troops.
It is also written and co-produced by Nolan with Emma Thomas serving as producer. Jake Myers and Greg Silverman are executive producing. Hans Zimmer is providing the music while Hoyte Van Hoytema will serve as director of photography.
Although the trailer didn’t feature any of the main cast, one specific extra gained notoriety for his expression on the short clip. According to Metro, the extra portraying one of the many soldiers aboard the boat was seen smirking despite the horrific scene. The clip soon went viral on the internet.
‘Dunkirk’ is an upcoming historical action and drama film directed, written and co-produced by Christopher Nolan of ‘Inception’, ‘Interstellar’, and ‘The Dark Knight’ fame. It is produced by Warner Bros., Syncopy, and RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros. It is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on July 21, 2017.
