In the fourth installment of the “Forza Horizon” franchise, fans of the car racing video game will virtually drive through the streets of the United Kingdom.
Microsoft’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press event on Sunday featured announcements of highly anticipated video games from other companies and developers. But as expected, Microsoft was also geared to reveal its own lineup of upcoming titles, including the latest installment of its new property, “Forza Horizon,” developed by its newly acquired U.K.-based subsidiary Playground Games.
In every “Forza Horizon” installment, the virtual car races are set in various open-world locations in a selected country, and for “Forza Horizon 4,” that is the United Kingdom. For this reason, it is only fitting that Microsoft and Playground Games chose vehicles from British automakers, including the McLaren Senna and the 1997 Land Rover Defender 90, to grace the game’s official cover.
One highlight confirmed for “Forza Horizon 4” is the featuring of “dynamic seasons," which will be changing every week. As seen in the trailer, high-end vehicles curated for the upcoming game will be speeding through changing weathers across various locations in the U.K.
To match the technical capacities of the latest Xbox One consoles, “Forza Horizon 4” was developed to play in native 4K resolution and high-dynamic range (HDR). Microsoft also confirmed that the upcoming game will feature more than 450 cars; however, it is not clear yet how many vehicles are part of the first full release and how many will be added as post-launch DLC.
To celebrate “Forza Horizon 4’s” announcement and the developers' “long-term partnership" with carmaker McLaren, Microsoft will exclusively display the McLaren Senna during its upcoming Mixer live stream event, which is still part of the E3 2018 festivities. This will happen on Tuesday, June 12, at 2 p.m. EDT at Xbox’s Mixer booth at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This also marks the first time that the will McLaren Senna arrive in North America.
“Forza Horizon 4” will be released on Oct. 2 on the Windows PC and Xbox One. The game will also be added to Microsoft’s video game streaming service Xbox Game Pass on the same day.
