In a recently released First Look video of “Empire” Season 5, it was teased that a major character was going to die. This was done via shots of a coffin and Terrence Howard’s character Lucious Lyons standing over it saying “I’m sorry.” The cast seems to be having fun teasing fans to bits about it, as well, and this is just the start. Jussie Smollet who plays Jamal Lyon promises that this season’s story will be “groundbreaking.”
As Carter Matt notes, there are a few possibilities as to who could be in the casket. Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere Y. Gray) is a good one, but it could lead to a fan revolt. Then again, there is always the possibility that the show is just trolling viewers to drum up interest for “Empire” Season 5. If so, it would certainly be a good way to mess with fans’ minds.
With regards to what viewers can expect from the show once it premieres, however, Jussie Smollet recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about “Empire” Season 5. According to the actor, this season’s story will be something that has “never been done on television.”
“I think that this season we found a way to break new ground and do something that has never been done on television before and kind of speak about and to the people that I represent and that I care about so deeply. I’m trying not to give too much away because there’s so much that I want to say!” the actor said.
By keeping the details closer to his chest, what Jussie Smollet means by this revelation can only be guessed at, at this point. However, it would be safe to say that “Empire” Season 5 represents something of a new opportunity for the characters. As to how they will use this chance, fans will simply need to watch when the show premieres on Sept. 26.
