One of the biggest complaints that players had with the sweet royal set of wheels in Final Fantasy 15 is not being able to go off-road. When the Regalia was first announced before the game’s launch, many were hoping that it would provide actual freedom to drive wherever the players wanted. Thanks to the latest update to the title, players can now do this by turning the car into a truck.
It’s worth noting that the Regalia already has some awesome upgrades that can be done in order to turn it into a huge asset for the team driving it around. Heck, it can even fly with the right tools and supplies. Even so, nothing can replace the unbridled joy of riding down slopes and up hills on a vehicle with giant tires. With the Regalia Type-D, this is exactly what players can start doing, Kotaku reports.
The new option comes via Update 1.2 and it’s a whopping 8.65GB of data that are meant to fix bugs and throws in some nice Episode Prompto details. As usual, getting the upgrade for the Regalia requires going to the Hammerhead, where Cindy can mod the vehicle and give it its off-road abilities.
Based on the footage being shared on social media, it’s pretty clear that players are having a lot of fun with their new wheels. There are those who even wanted to drive the Regalia into a lake just to see what would happen. As it turns out, the vehicle can only touch a bit of the water before the game prompts players to return it to dry land.

Naturally, this new update is free of charge, Polygon reports. It’s a surprising bit of development, especially considering how other studios and publishers would have made the off-road option a paid DLC. This just goes to show how much Square Enix cares about its fans.
