Monopoly has featured numerous pop culture icons in the past such as “Angry Birds,” “Star Wars,” and “Indiana Jones.” This time, the classic board game will be reaching into the treasure trove that is the “Final Fantasy” franchise for its next version, with the popular seventh installment. Fans will be able to defeat “Shinra” and save “Midgar” again, but this time, they will do so by the roll of a dice.
As The Verge put it, “Final Fantasy VII” is a perfect fit for the Monopoly franchise because of the game’s lore, setting, plot, and characters. For starters, there’s the “Shinra Corporation,” which is basically a much more evil version of Koch Industries. This giant conglomerate is basically bleeding the planet dry of natural resources in order to meet its bottom line, and the main character “Cloud Strife,” along with his teammates are out to stop the evil corporation.
As a Monopoly game, fans of “FFVII” will be fighting the agents of “Shinra” with skillful dice throws and lucky card draws instead of swords, magic and materia. The board game will be released in April 2017 and can be ordered via Merchoid.
Details are scarce at the moment, so few know exactly what the board game version of the popular JRPG will feature or how it will look. However, with the “Shinra Corporation” literally having a monopoly over the resources and wealth in the game, it’s only fitting that it is ended on a Monopoly board.
Then again, it isn’t likely that the basic features of Monopoly will be changed just because of the title’s nature, so EW reports that it will still likely come with classic strategy-based mechanics as all the other Monopoly games. More than that, this might be the chance for fans to finish the game with (Spoilers)… Aerith still alive.
