There’s no doubt that Bethesda’s Fallout 4 video game has been a financial success, but it seems the company wants to increase the exposure of the title years after its release. This weekend, players will be able to download and play the game for free via Steam and Xbox Live. Unfortunately, it’s only for this weekend and PlayStation 4 players are getting left out.
To be specific, the event will last from May 25th to May 28th, where PC and Xbox One gamers will be able to take the title out for a spin for three days without paying for it, IGN reports. It’s worth noting, however, that Bethesda requires Xbox users to have Gold Membership on Live in order to take advantage of the offer.
Unfortunately for PS4 gamers, the free trial period for the game won’t be available to them. Then again, they could still get the game for less than the full price when it goes on sale this weekend, which will slash as much as 64 percent from the game’s current price. The discount applies to Fallout 4’s Season Pass as well, so that’s all the DLCs and extra content on a more affordable board.
For those interested, yes, the free trial period will also allow players to mod their game on both PC and Xbox One, PC Gamer reports. These mods are basically new content that can be added to the title in the form of new costumes, weapons, quests, and even entirely new lands.
Just to give those who are not familiar with the concept an idea of what they can do with mods, there are options out there that can bring back trees and grass to the wasteland and play an entirely new game using Fallout 4 assets. They can be accessed via the built-in mod feature in the game or by visiting the most popular websites that host mods.
