Ever wondered what "Fallout 4" would look like if it took a trip from Boston and travelled all the way back to the Mojave Wasteland?
The "Fallout 4: New Vegas" project, a fan-created expansion mod for "Fallout 4" based on Bethesda's 2010 "Fallout: New Vegas" release, started development in August 2017 with the goal of bringing the story of Courier 6 up to date with the "Fallout 4" Engine.
The original game, developed by Obsidian Entertainment, was well-received by fans, much more than Bethesda's own in-house developed 2008 release, "Fallout 3". Critics may have scored "Fallout 3" higher than Obsidian's foray into the post-apocalyptic world of "Fallout," but fans lean toward the consensus that "Fallout: New Vegas" was an overall better experience with tweaks that were missing from the original game, in addition to the more interesting storylines, locations, and characters which made "New Vegas" an overall more immersive experience. Even compared to "Fallout 4," fan reception has been much better for "Fallout: New Vegas."
What does this mean when a dedicated team of "Fallout" fans decide to port over what the community has agreed upon to be the best modern "Fallout" experience?
Aside from the obvious usage of “Fallout 4's” Creative Engine 2.0 for a much more high-definition and modern look, expect the “Fallout 4: New Vegas” team to also port “Fallout: New Vegas's”much-loved storyline, and improve upon the player experience of the New Vegas Strip.
While the project aims to bring the best of both worlds from “Fallout 4” and “Fallout: New Vegas,” there are a few unfortunate areas where the development team has had recent hiccups.
“Fallout 4: New Vegas” will unfortunately not be-be able to fully utilize the “Settlement” system from “Fallout 4”. Fortunately, the said system will still be used to create the new “Player Housing” feature for the “New Vegas” experience.
In a devblog post by the team, they mention that while the project can port over “New Vegas'” storylines into “Fallout 4,” they are currently prevented from extracting audio files of dialogue from the base game due to legality issues. This forces the team to create a voice acting team.
Due to the mod's nature, “Fallout 4: New Vegas” will unfortunately not be available on console for players of “Fallout 4” who don't use PC as their platform. But for anyone missing the vibrant stories of the Mojave, the “Fallout 4: New Vegas” project may be just the thing to follow, or even join development for, in 2018.
