After confirming a few details about Far Cry 5 last week, Ubisoft promised that it will do the official announcement of the game in a few days. In the meantime, the company released an official artwork for the game that hints at quite a few details about the new game.
For now, fans of the series already know that the new Far Cry title is going to be set in fictional Hope County, Montana. This is the first time that the series was brought over to US soil, IGN notes, with previous titles being set on deserted islands and tropical nightmares.
In any case, there are a few things about the newly released art for the game that that media publications have already picked up. The most obvious elements of the scene are the heavily-armed characters that are sitting behind a table and arranged in a disturbingly similar fashion to that of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. It just screams “Cult!” right at the viewer.
At the front of the table is what appears to be a bound man with the word SINNER etched into his skin. Beside him are decidedly high powered weaponry, which includes a compound bow, RPG rockets, and fully automatic rifles. The scene eerily depicts what many have come to associate with the right-wing extremist groups that tend to have survivalist attitudes and an unhealthy obsession with religion.
The background features a church with a flag showing a cross on a dark blue background and white and red stripes beneath it. There are also mountain ranges, hydroplanes, and burning buildings.
As PC Gamer notes, bringing the franchise to the US makes a lot of sense since reports of extremist groups in the Southern States still exist to this day. The characters, story, plot, and events might be fictional, but they certainly reflect reality in an unfortunate number of examples found in today’s America. Heck, based on how messed up the series’ stories have been, players might even have to deal with incestuous relationships and inbred characters.
