Ferrari is preparing to enter a new era with the launch of the Ferrari Luce, the luxury automaker’s first fully electric car. Known worldwide for its powerful V8 and V12 engines, Ferrari has spent more than a decade developing electrification technology before finally introducing an all-electric Ferrari model.
The company’s transition toward electric performance began in 2014 when hybrid powertrains became part of Formula One racing. Ferrari later expanded this technology into road cars, launching the SF90 Stradale in 2019, its first mass-produced hybrid supercar delivering 1,000 horsepower and four-wheel drive. Ferrari also introduced several hybrid models afterward, including the popular 296 lineup and limited-edition supercars aimed at elite collectors.
Ferrari accelerated its electric vehicle strategy after Benedetto Vigna became CEO in 2021. Under his leadership, the Italian luxury car manufacturer committed to increasing electrification across its lineup. In 2022, Ferrari announced plans for electric cars to represent a significant share of future production, following stricter European emissions regulations and the EU’s planned ban on new gasoline-powered cars by 2035.
In 2024, Ferrari opened a new e-building facility in Maranello dedicated to producing electric vehicles, hybrid systems, and combustion-engine components. Reports also revealed that Ferrari’s first EV would carry a price tag exceeding €500,000, highlighting the brand’s continued focus on exclusivity and high-end performance.
By 2025, Ferrari confirmed that customer deliveries of the Luce EV would begin in October 2026. The company also revised its long-term production targets, balancing electric vehicles, hybrids, and traditional combustion-engine models due to slower-than-expected demand for high-performance EVs.
In early 2026, Ferrari officially teased the Luce, confirming collaboration with LoveFrom, the design company co-founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive. Ferrari also revealed that the electric supercar would feature a specially engineered sound system designed to recreate the emotional driving experience and signature Ferrari roar associated with the brand’s legendary performance cars.
