“Final Fantasy 8: Remaster” still doesn’t have a release date yet and fans are eagerly awaiting word from Square Enix. Last week, the game received its ESRB rating prompting fans and gaming outlets alike to speculate that the game may be coming out soon.
So what can we expect from “Final Fantasy 8: Remaster?” Well, seeing that it’s only a remaster and not a complete remake of the 1999 title, most of the major changes done to it will be centered on graphics.
Its gameplay will remain intact barring a few alterations here and there. The story of “Final Fantasy 8: Remaster” will also follow the original game, with Squall and Rinoa taking the spotlight.
Final Fantasy 8: Remaster and Triple Triad
But apart from the main plot of the “Final Fantasy 8: Remaster,” the mini-game inside the title is also another aspect that fans are excited to get their hands on. Called “Triple Triad,” the card game was initially played by soldiers but proved popular enough that it made its way to the hands of the common folk.
This “Final Fantasy 8: Remaster” mini-game will be played on a 3x3 grid where the players will be tasked to capture the opposing side’s card. Captured cards will be turned to the colors assigned to each player. The rank of the cards will determine how it will be captured, and the winner is decided when the majority of the cards, including the one that’s not been placed on the board, has been dominated by one color by the end of the match.
Triple Triad will be more complicated as Final Fantasy 8: Remaster progresses
While deceptively simple, the rules of Triple Triad will change as the story of “Final Fantasy 8: Remaster” progresses. Rules will also vary depending on what region the game is being played. This mini-game is considered one of the best there is, not just in the franchise but in the entire gaming ecosystem. Some have even compared its quality to “Gwent.”
As for when “Final Fantasy 8: Remaster” will be released, speculations would have it that it will come out at the end of 2019, TechRadar reported. This certainly is line with the ESRB being given to the remaster and how Square Enix has positioned itself in recent months. Hopefully, the remaster will prove popular enough so that a complete remake of the game will be done by the studio.
