Square Enix released Final Fantasy XV a year ago to huge acclaim and great sales, but the company isn’t done trying to milk this cow yet. A new mobile version of the game is coming to smart devices and it might just be the cutest thing ever. It basically recreates many of the scenes from the full PlayStation (and now Windows) version of the game in a more cartoony fashion.
Officially known as Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, it’s a much lower-resolution rendition of the highly successful PS4 exclusive. Instead of waiting to get home from work or school to play it again, gamers can now get their fix using their phones, GameSpot reports.
The characters themselves are no longer the stylish boy band members that they are in the main game. Now, they are chibi figures that are sure to make anime fans shriek with delight.
The environments saw quite a few changes as well, going for less defined but more colorful looks. Then there’s the matter of the combat mechanics, which was a huge part of the original game. In the mobile version, the developers chose to go with an isometric system where fights are controlled via a simple touch interface.
Now, since this is a mobile app, it’s unreasonable to expect the game to have the same open-world feel as that of the PS4 version. Instead, the scenes will be broken down into 10 episodes, with a particular mission and environment assigned to each.
As Android Police notes, this might just be the first mobile game tied to the Final Fantasy XV property that’s worth playing. Most of the other offerings were not exactly stellar and some were downright unplayable for any true Final Fantasy fan. What’s more, the most successful mobile renditions of Final Fantasy games are the ports and this one works quite similar to it.
