“Fortnite” is currently the undisputed king of the battle royale scene at the moment. However, a new contender has recently entered the ring which many are already saying is better than Epic’s title. It’s called “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” and its battle royale mode, called “Blackout,” is being compared to “Fortnite.” In fact, many are saying that it’s even better.
In a Forbes piece, the headline literally reads “'Call of Duty: Black Ops 4'--At Least Blackout Is Much Easier Than 'Fortnite',” which is indicative of a lot of things. For starters, it would seem that there are those who find the Epic Battle Royale game quite difficult to play. In contrast, the new “Blackout” mode is considerably less involved.
This is understandable since “Fortnite” does come with a lot of actions that are not found in any other shooter. While not strictly required, the best players in the game can build structures, throw grenades, heal, and shoot in blinding speeds. “Blackout,” on the other hand, asks quite a bit less from players in order to have fun. Basically, the skill cap is considerably lower.
Even The Daily Beast is piling on the “Blackout”-is-better-than-“Fortnite” bandwagon, with its piece highlighting how the new game outshines the king of battle royale. For the most part, a lot of this has to do with the high production value of the game, which “Fortnite” simply did not have. The aesthetics plays a crucial difference as well, with the “Call of Duty” offer featuring more realistic visuals.
It would appear that the tension involved in “Blackout” is higher than in “Fortnite,” though a lot of this has to do with the POV. At the end of the day, the only ones who can decide which game is better are the players. However, it also can’t be denied that the opinions of gaming publications influence discussions.
