Coding has become such an important part of life in the modern society that it has pervaded pretty much every aspect of daily life, whether people know it or not. More to the point, future industries will require less manual labor and more technical work, so it’s important for people to start at least becoming familiar with coding to adapt. This is what Google’s Grasshopper mobile game is made for.
To be clear, this mobile game is specifically geared towards adults, though children with more advanced skills can also make use of it if they want. The point is that there are already plenty of mobile games and other options for learning coding that are intended for children in the market, but hardly any for adults. With Grasshopper, grownups can spend less time on Candy Crush and more time programming.
For the most part, this free mobile app is only going to be able to teach users on the basic principles of programming, Time notes. The app has actually been in the works for some time, but this is the first time that it is being released to the public.
Developed by Google’s Area 120, which is basically the search engine company’s super-secret R&D division, the app is now available for both Android and iOS devices. With regards to its actual function and design, Grasshopper is intended to address three of the fundamental challenges that adults have in learning to code: Time, money, and access.
Grasshopper deals with all of this by essentially making the learning curve as easy as possible, by being free, and by being available on practically every mobile device on the planet. By also making the lessons more of a fun, interactive experience rather than a dull lecture, even those who aren’t really that inclined to learning can still benefit from the app.
