There is still more than a year left before the slated release of “Frozen 2.” However, recent rumblings are already speculating that Disney is going to confirm that Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel) is gay. At the same time, a new character, to be voiced by Evan Rachel Wood, is rumored to be the Arendelle ruler’s love interest.
Revenge of the Fans reported, based on “a couple of very reliable sources,” that Disney is gearing up to confirm that Queen Elsa is gay. There are no specific indications from prior interviews of the film’s cast and crew but reports are picking up hints from the recent casting of actors and writers for “Frozen 2.”
Wood’s addition to the cast of “Frozen 2” was first reported in July. At the time, reports only implied that everything related to this matter is still being discussed. Fans have yet to learn if such deals with Wood have already been signed.
However, recent reports are now speculating that Wood is already part of the “Frozen 2” voice actors. Moreover, the “Westworld” actress — who has been very open about her bisexuality — is supposed to lend her voice to the new character that will make Queen Elsa fall in love.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Disney also brought in screenwriter Allison Schroeder to be part of the “Frozen 2” team. Schroeder has worked with Disney before, for the screenplay of “Christopher Robin.” However, her work with the critically acclaimed film “Hidden Figures” is also eyed as one fitting credential for working on “Frozen 2” — an animated film with a Queen that did not rely on a prince to save the day.
Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown is also rumored to join the “Frozen 2” cast. His name was first tied to the upcoming Disney sequel along with Wood last month. Meanwhile, Kristen Bell and Josh Gad will be reprising their well-loved characters, Princess Anna and Olaf, respectively.
“Frozen 2” is reportedly still in pre-production. Without major delays, the much-awaited sequel is slated to premiere on Nov. 27, 2019.
