GM Korea's Trax accumulated sales of 28,242 units to top the small SUV category in the United States in the first quarter.
The Trax accounts for 30 percent of small SUV sales for the first quarter in the United States.
There were 15 kinds of small SUVs sold in the United States.
Following Trax were Honda HR-V at 19,414 units and Hyundai Motor's Kona at 15,174 units.
The Trax was also the most sold small SUV in the US last year, selling a total of 229,218 units.
GM's Bupyeong plant in Incheon manufactures all Trax models, which was the most exported South Korean vehicle from 2016 to 2018.
According to GM Korea, the popularity of the Trax in US is due to its smooth handling, up to 140 horsepower, and 20.4-kilogram meters of torque.
The US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety chose the Trax as the Top Safety Pick in 2015.
The small SUV market has been expanding rapidly in the United States, 603,369 units sold in 2018, increasing to 693,843 units in 2019, marking a 15 percent increase.
