‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 actor Iain Glen talked about his character’s story arc in the upcoming season, specifically revealing details on Ser Jorah Mormont’s survival as well as redemption for Daenerys. Meanwhile, Sean Bean revealed that he wants his character Ned Stark to be resurrected.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Iain Glen revealed that he couldn’t contain his excitement upon receiving the season 7 script. He was even prompted to send a message to showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. He admitted, “I wrote to Dan and David and I said I thought they were the best seven episodes they’ve ever written.”
The 55-year old Scottish actor is best known for his role as Ser Jorah Mormont on HBO’s popular fantasy-drama television series based on George R. R. Martin’s novels ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ Ser Jorah is a major character in the series’ first through seventh season and debuted in the series premiere.
He was a northern lord exiled to Essos, who eventually swore his fealty to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) helping her adapt to life as the new Khaleesi of the Dothraki. However, Dany cast him aside after finding out that he originally worked as a spy for King Robert’s spymaster Varys (Conleth Hill). He eventually got infected by the grayscale to which Dany ordered him to find a cure immediately and return to her someday.
Glen revealed that Ser Jorah’s story arc in the new season “is all about whether he will survive this horrendous sickness he’s contracted… My feeling is Jorah would die a happy man if he could get forgiveness from Daenerys… He’s been in that mental territory half his life. He’s always been willing to sacrifices his life for her. His loss of life is not as big for him as seeking her redemption.”
Meanwhile, Sean Bean admitted that he would like his character Ned Stark to be resurrected just like his on-screen son Jon Snow during an interview with Radio Times. Bean is best known for playing characters on both film and television that end up with the worst deaths.
When asked which characters he would like to be resurrected given the power, he replied, “I suppose Game of Thrones would be all right.” However, Bean said that if fans want to see his character brought back to life in the subsequent seasons, they may need to call out to the bosses at HBO. He joked, “Tell them!”
Ned Stark was the head of House Stark, Lord of Winterfell, Lord Paramount and Warden of the North. He was later appointed Hand of the King to King Robert Baratheon.
Ned was beheaded by the end of the first season’s finale after he was accused of treason. His execution sparked a massive battle called the War of the Five Kings, specifically between Joffrey Baratheon, Stannis and Renly Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy, and Robb Stark.
‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is expected to air on July 16, 2017 on HBO.
