The hit Disney Channel series “Girl Meets World” left viewers wondering about the love triangle between the main character Riley (Rowan Blanchard), her best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter), and Lucas (Peyton Meyer). Will it still continue next season or will the show go in another direction entirely? According to show creator Michael Jacobs though, this is the wrong question to ask.
When he spoke with The Wrap, Jacobs made it clear that the show was more than just about the teenage romance aspect.
"If the audience perceives that what this is about is a love triangle, then they don't know us," he said.
The central premise of the show will apparently still be the coming-of-age angles that the people behind the program were aiming for. Although “Girl Meets World” has been labeled as almost a copy of its predecessor “Boy Meets World,” Jacobs says that this is not the case.
According to him, the world in which Riley is growing up in is a lot different compared to the world that the characters of the previous program grew up in. There are different challenges, different environments, and even the things that matter most to modern teens are different.
The central theme to the show is therefore taking the audience through all these different challenges, how the kids deal with them and eventually, finding their own place in the world. As a result, Jacobs says that season 3 will involve some major changes for the characters.
"We think the third season, which we are working on right now, will show the growth and the feelings that kids have to come in contact with in order to evolve in a world where everybody, unfortunately, I think, has to grow up very fast," he says on the interview with The Wrap.
Season 3 for “Girl Meets World” will premiere on June 3 on the Disney Channel.
