The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have been officially unveiled and the event confirmed the speculated specs of the devices, to the disappointment of some of their followers. Aside from not having a headphone jack, there were two main complaints that users are grumbling about.
One of them is the 4GB RAM of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, a measly amount of memory for a high-end flagship. The devices’ competition – the iPhone XS and the Galaxy S9 – both have 6GB or 8GB worth of RAM, depending on the variant.
But the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL don’t have such a luxury and this might prove to be a problem. This problem stems from the assumption that 4GB worth of RAM is correlated to the performance decline of a device. While this isn’t particularly a hard fact at this point, many gadget reviewers have noticed this degeneration after eight to 10 months of use.
The other complaint is the huge and deep notch on the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. However, the notch does come with a functionality called “Super Selfies,” with f/1.8 and f/2.2 apertures. Now, a new complaint has arisen, although this one is but a minor inconvenience.
The problem is that in the United States, Verizon is the only carrier of the device, which means that it will not support SIM cards from other carriers unless activated on Verizon’s own network. After it’s activated, the company will then unlock the device overnight, The Verge reported.
Of course, people can opt to directly buy the handset from Google itself. But for those who are hoping to pick up the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL at a Best Buy or from someone selling it online, they’ll have to go through the activation process before slotting in the SIM of their desired carrier.
Having said all these, the verdict for the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL seems to lean towards the positive side as they once again nailed the camera. The devices' predecessors have been among those smartphones with the best snappers out there.
Now, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have been outfitted with an even slicker camera, particularly the rear snapper of the handsets. The devices are capable of capturing images in great detail, even when the area being taken contains both bright surfaces and dark corners. Simply point and shoot and the device’s Google HDR+ algorithms will do the rest.
And with the handset given Google’s Top Shot capabilities, users can capture images comparable to those taken by someone who is well-versed in taking photos. To sum it up, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL actually deliver on multiple fronts despite the complaints.
However, there’s still the verdict regarding the RAM and whether or not the device will indeed suffer a performance decline eight to 10 months from now. As for the release date of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, they’re already available for pre-order now and will start shipping on Nov. 1.
