The college that a person attends will have a monumental impact on their life. For many, it’s where adulthood truly starts and where they are molded to become the persons that they can be. Google wants to help students find the college that will be perfect for their needs and preferences. Through Google Search, a list of relevant information about prospective institutions is provided.
With the new update that Google posted just today, the company is targeting students hunting for colleges. All of the relevant data that apply to particular institutions will become available when their names are searched. This should be immensely helpful in making informed decisions on which ones to choose, especially regarding the costs of enrollment.
“To show a more complete picture of college cost for parents and students, Search will give you easy access to information about the average cost after student aid is applied, including breakdowns by household income. You can also dig into data around graduation rates as well as typical annual income 10 years after enrollment, designed to help you better understand the potential outcomes of attending that school,” the post reads.
“We’ve also included easy ways to explore undergraduate enrollment rates, stats about the student body, notable alumni, and similar colleges to provide a more comprehensive view of the schools you’re considering or may want to look into in the future.”
As Engadget notes, the data that will be provided to the searchers are obtained from the Department of Education. This makes the results more reliable than if they came from random sources. However, it’s worth pointing out that college information changes on a regular basis. As such, it’s worth following up with the colleges to confirm the accuracy of the data provided by Google Search.
Barring the matter of double-checking the information provided, this new functionality of Google Search can be quite beneficial to students. It at least provides a clearer picture of what life will really be like in a particular college before committing to it.
