‘Gotham’ season 3 is set to feature the return of Ivy Pepper as the iconic villainess Poison Ivy. Clare Foley will not be reprising her role as the character will be recast as an older version. Meanwhile, cast members expressed their desire to have Jim Carrey and Michelle Pfeiffer on the show.
According to TV Line, Ivy Pepper is set to be reintroduced into the series as the powerful Poison Ivy. Actress Clare Foley, who played the orphan with a strange fascination for plants in the first two seasons, will be recast for an older actress possibly in her teens that could play the part. Casting is currently underway.
Foley intermittently appeared in season 1’s pilot as well as other episodes namely “Lovecraft”, “Welcome Back, Jim Gordon”, and “Red Hood”. She also made appearances in season 2 episodes such as “Rise of the Villains: Far”, “Wrath of the Villains: Mad Grey Dawn”, and “Wrath of the Villains: A Legion of Horribles”.
Ivy Pepper was known to be plant-obsessed as a coping mechanism for a violent family background. She grows up to be Poison Ivy, an independent female villain and eco-terrorist who is considered one of Batman’s greatest enemies.
The villainess appeared on the 1997 full-feature film release, ‘Batman & Robin’, and was portrayed by Uma Thurman. Poison Ivy was depicted as a seductress who was half-plant and half-human. She began as Dr. Pamela Lilian Isley, a scientist and botanist who specialized in the study of exotic flower species in South America whose work was funded by Wayne Enterprise.
Other antagonists coming in the third season include The Mad Hatter, the Tweedle Brothers, Talon and Solomon Grundy. It was also confirmed that Vicki Vale will be appearing as well.
Meanwhile, actor Cory Michael Smith told Digital Spy that he wanted Jim Carrey cast as his character Edward Nygma’s father. Carrey played the iconic Edward Nygma a.k.a. Riddler in the live-action cinematic adaptation ‘Batman Forever’ released in 1995. Smith said, "I would love Jim Carrey to be my father… I mean, what are the chances? But I'd love it."
Smith’s casting wish comes after Paul Reubens’ return portrayal as Penguin’s father on the DC series. Reubens played the exact same character in ‘Batman Forever’.
Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Penguin in ‘Gotham’, also admitted that he wanted Michelle Pfeiffer to join the cast as Selina “Cat” Kyle’s mother. He insisted that Pfeiffer looked the part since she bared a resemblance to actress Camren Bicondova. Pfeiffer is also best known for playing Selina a.k.a. Catwoman in 1992’s ‘Batman Returns’, where she was nominated an MTV Movie Award for Most Desirable Female.
‘Gotham’ is a crime television series airing on Fox. It is intended as the prequel to the Batman franchise and stars Ben McKenzie as the young commissioner James Gordon. It features several origin stories for iconic DC heroes as well as villains.
Season 3 is expected to premiere on Fox on Fall of 2016 but has not been officially confirmed as of the present.
