IO Interactive has finally announced that the release of “Hitman 2” is happening later this year. But pre-ordering the game today will give gamers instant access to the all-new Sniper Assassin mode.
In previous installments, the barcoded sniper went on all missions alone. Now, with the new Sniper Assassin mode, players can recruit their friends in eliminating their targets. But to stay true to the franchise’s gameplay format, Sniper Assassin can also be played alone.
Co-op gaming is the first-of-its-kind in the franchise. While Sniper Assassin requires an online connection, IGN notes that it does not offer matchmaking features. This means that gamers have to manually add or invite friends to team up in the Sniper Assassin mode and everyone has to individually pre-order “Hitman 2” to enjoy co-op gaming. It is still unclear if developers are going to add online matchmaking once the full version of “Hitman 2” is launched.
Developers also previewed some of the new locations where Agent 47’s missions will take place. In the first official trailer, the bald sniper is seen in a very crowded car-racing event.
Like in previous “Hitman” installments, there are several ways for Agent 47 to take out a target aside, from sniping. In the announcement trailer, he is seen using remote technologies to mess with a subject’s vehicle or to activate concealed explosives.
On the game’s official website, developers also tease about the arrival of six new sandbox locations which they describe as “hugely complex environments.” Depending on players’ ability to strategize, these intricately designed places may or may not work to their advantage.
The announcement of "Hitman 2" is certainly good news to fans of the series. The Verge recalled that there were concerns that "Hitman" might have ended when Square Enix cut ties with IO Interactive. Luckily, the developer retained the rights to the franchise and it was later picked up by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment.
“Hitman 2” is available at prices starting at $59.99. Its official launch is slated for Nov. 13 on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
