How do you do it? Owners, Founders, CEOs, and the like who run successful businesses, all get asked this question. How did you get your business to take flight and seemingly soar effortlessly? Well, some answers to that may be persistence, innovative ideas, wise investments, etc. The most important way to achieve success in your business, however, is great customer service. Going above and beyond to satisfy your client base, to listen to their feedback and incorporate it into your business model, to treat them with sincere care is the answer.
Become Your Customers’ Friend
Get to know your customers. When they enter your business, treat them as if they were guests in your home. Learn their names and interests, ask them about their day. When your business starts to grow, and the number of customers you have obtained has gotten to a point where this isn’t plausible, start a database. Enter the information you know about them into it and when they call and you retrieve their information for an order, pull it up and ask them about their dog Meatball they bragged about upon their last visit. If your customer’s feel like you care, they will look forward to giving you their business time and time again.
Feedback is Key
Respond to feedback, good and bad. If a customer leaves a wonderful review on your site, on Google, Facebook, anywhere, promptly thank them. On the inverse, if they leave a bad review anywhere, just as promptly respond. The saying is the customer is always right. We all know that’s not true, there are some people that just can’t be pleased, but be sure to make the feel as though they are right. You don’t have to be a door mat, but if you come across a complaint, respond with kindness, no arguments, ask how you can resolve their issue and make good on your offer.
An Example of Success
One company that has achieved great success over many years is AvaCare Medical. Their solid customer service model has grown their company from a garage start-up in the 1980s, to a successful brick and mortar and online store that services 48 states, supplying millions of people with not only the supplies they need, but the compassion they need as well. “AvaCare Medical is a customer driven, full service medical supply and equipment company aimed at reaching the homebound patient across the United State,” says company CEO Steven Zeldes. As for his customer service beliefs, Zeldes says, “I realized that we’re a business of customer service. People need help but don’t always know how or what product to order. We hold their hand to find the right product for them and the care and concern that we extend to each and every customer truly sets us apart.” And that, right there, is the key to great customer service, to a successful business that achieves longevity. Hold your customer’s hand and they will follow you and support you and your business to the very end.
