President Donald Trump and his wife Melania are public figures who are always under media scrutiny. With this level of attention, feuds within the family, exes included, are bound to make their rounds with the press in no time at all.
This scenario actually happened back in 2017 when, seemingly out of the blue, Donald Trump’s first wife, Ivana, appeared to have challenged Melanie Trump. During a televised interview, Ivana claimed that she is actually the real first lady.
“I'm basically first Trump wife, OK?” Ivana said on “Good Morning America,” according to Express. “I’m the real first lady, OK?”
President Trump’s former wife even revealed that while she had a direct line to her ex-husband, she feared using it as it might make Melania jealous. “I don't really want to call him there because Melania is there,” Ivana said. “I don't want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that.”
In addition, Ivana claimed that Melanie probably does not enjoy living in the White House.
As expected, Melania was not pleased upon hearing Ivana’s comments. She immediately responded by releasing a statement through her press secretary addressing Ivana’s claims.
In her statement, Melanie clarified that she actually enjoys living in the capital. In fact, she did her best to make the White House a home for her young son as well as for her husband.
“Mrs. Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and the President,” Stephanie Grisham, Melania’s secretary said. “She loves living in Washington, DC and is honored by her role as first lady of the United States. She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books.”
The first lady also said that Ivana made those comments because she seeks attention. “There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex, this is unfortunately only attention-seeking and self-serving noise,” Melania added, according to The Washington Post.
Donald Trump married Ivana in 1977 but divorced fourteen years later in 1991. They have three children during their marriage - Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka, and Eric.
Meanwhile, Melanie is Trump’s third wife whom he married in 2005. They have one child, the 13-year old Barron Trump.
