Huawei has been releasing a bunch of new products, and the past weekend, it has unveiled a device to compete with Amazon’s popular Kindle line. The Chinese tech company introduced its Huawei MatePad Paper.
The release of the said new gadget is also said to be part of its strategy to revive its consumer business that has been negatively affected by its plunging smartphone sales due to the past U.S. sanctions under Donald Trump’s administration.
According to CNBC, the new Huawei MatePad Paper is the brand’s very first e-reader gadget and very useful for work or study. It features a wide 10.3-inch display that is perfect for the work environment.
The new device is expected to rival Amazon’s Kindle is also compatible with Huawei’s M-Pencil, so users can write on the screen as well. The company described writing on its MatePad Paper as very similar to writing on a real paper.
This is because there is slight friction and sound when writing on it. The best part is that handwritten notes on the device could be easily converted to texts too.
“The MatePad Paper is the most interesting product in Huawei’s new range,” Ben Wood, the chief analyst at CCS Insight, a specialist technology market intelligence and advisory firm, said. “These products are growing in popularity due to their extremely long battery life, ultra-thin designs, and easy-to-read screens that are said to be less fatiguing than traditional LCD displays.”
Aside from the new Huawei MatePad Paper, the tech firm also released the new editions of its flagship laptops called the MateBook X Pro. This device is being carved out to compete with Apple’s Macbook line. Another product to watch out for is the brand’s MateBook E 2-in1 tablet and laptop with a detachable keyboard.
Finally, Huawei is hoping to get back on track and snatch a bigger market share once again in the global market where it once reigned at the top before being sanctioned in the U.S. These new premium products are the company’s best bets to regain its high position in the business.
“We are facing big challenges, and it’s really been a tough time for us, but we have not been discouraged,” The Independent quoted Richard Yu, chief executive of the Huawei Consumer Business Group, as saying during the official unveiling of the MatePad Paper. “We keep bringing the cutting edge technology, the innovative products and services to global consumers.”
