Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Corp. would jointly develop and commercialize a water electrolysis system for green hydrogen production with Canadian electrolyzers manufacturer Next Hydrogen Solutions Inc.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), the companies will develop a new stack, a device that produces hydrogen by separating water into its component molecules through an electric charge.
The new stack should be operable at a high current density to produce green hydrogen reliably and economically.
Next Hydrogen will be in charge of stack design and manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Hyundai and Kia will develop the stack's core components such as electrodes, bipolar plates, and current collectors, and its performance assessment.
