Hyundai Motor Group is the latest South Korean major company to send donations to Ukraine. The automaker will be handing out $1 million to the Red Cross, which is doing humanitarian works for the Ukrainian people and refugees.
It was said that the humanitarian crisis continues to get worse in the devastated country. With the situation, many people and communities are now in urgent need of assistance. According to The Korea Times, Hyundai Motor's move is actually an extension of its humanitarian aid efforts in times of major disasters anywhere in the world.
The company is helping out with relief and damage recovery efforts by donating funds and more. In fact, it was mentioned that the South Korean automaker also donated to Indonesia in 2018 when it was hit by strong earthquake and tsunami.
It also extended help to residents of Laos when they suffered from disastrous flooding in 2017. Moreover, when natural disasters struck the Philippines, China, the U.S., Haiti, and Peru in the past, Hyundai extended help as well.
"The company will be making a $1 million contribution to the Red Cross to support their essential work in providing support where it is needed most," the company said regarding its donation for Ukraine. "As the humanitarian situation worsens in Ukraine, it is clear many vulnerable people and communities are in need of urgent assistance,"
The Korea Herald reported that Hyundai Motor Group's donation for the people of Ukraine was announced on Monday, March 7. Prior to its announcement, Samsung also pledged to donate $6 million to the war-torn country that was attacked by Russia.
Samsung will also donate eletronic gadgets worth $1 million and its employees and executives are collecting personal donations that will all be forwarded to Ukraine too. SK Group, another Korean conglomerate, will also help the Ukrainians through its $1 million cash aid.
"We are cooperating with international organizations to supply humanitarian relief to Ukrainian refugees," Samsung said in a statement that was issued earlier this week. "We decided to contribute $6 million to such organizations as the Ukrainian Red Cross Society."
