Hyundai Motor Group has enabled users to open and start cars with its non-contact key service using ultra-wideband (UWB) technology via their smartphones.
The “Digital Key 2″ service will be applied selectively for the G90 sedan and follow-up vehicles from Hyundai Motor, Kia Corp., and Genesis.
Customers who purchase models that have the service will be able to activate the feature via over-the-air (OTA) software upgrades, eliminating the need for a separate visit to a service center.
Customers who register their keys to Digital Key 2-compatible Samsung Electronics Co. or Apple Inc. devices will be able to access an enhanced feature.
Hyundai Motor Group has secured digital key technology that is compatible with both Samsung and Apple products for the first time among automakers.
Furthermore, this technology allows customers to start the vehicle without having to place their smartphones on the vehicle's wireless charger.
It also has a smart trunk feature that opens the trunk automatically if the user waits more than three seconds behind the trunk.
