Hyundai Motor Co. delayed the delivery of the diesel variant of its GV80 sport utility vehicle while looking for a solution to its engine vibration issues.
According to Hyundai engineers, carbon buildup occurs when the engine, a new longitudinal in-line six diesel exclusive to the GV80, is at low rotation per minute mode for prolonged periods.
Hyundai stressed that the problem does not directly affect safety.
There were around 8,000 six-cylindered GV80 delivered in South Korea, with another 10,000 on order.
Hyundai pointed out that they have not stopped production of the GV80 since it has two variants with gasoline engines that do not have the same have the same problem.
The price of a diesel-powered GV80 with most of the options included in South Korea is over 89 million won.
