‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ star Liam Hemsworth was spotted promoting the sequel in Australia with co-star Jeff Goldblum but without rumored girlfriend Miley Cyrus. He also admitted being a fan of director Roland Emmerich’s work and felt honored to work with him.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Hemsworth jetted down to Australia to promote the upcoming film while Cyrus remained in Los Angeles. He was joined by franchise veteran Goldblum who returns to reprise his role as David Levinson, a scientist and computer expert.
Hemsworth teased, “It’s bigger and better… It’s a continuation of the story 20 years later but it is a lot bigger than the first one.”
According to another article on The Daily Mail, Hemsworth also expressed his admiration for Roland Emmerich and admitted that he had always been a fan of the director’s work. He said, “I had the opportunity to work with Roland Emmerich. I’ve been a fan of his since the first one. He kind of pioneered this world-ending genre.”
He added, “I also got to work with Jeff [Goldblum], and it was a lot of fun. It’s that sort of moment, your first step on set, and you’re looking at spaceships and things like that.”
The 26-year old actor is set to play Jake Morrison, one of Earth Space Defense’s (ESD) best pilots. His character grew up in an orphanage after his parents were killed in the first attack. The ESD is a global defense program created by the United Nations that serves as Earth’s early warning system and main defense against potential alien attacks.
Hemsworth is best known for his role as Gale Hawthorne on ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy with Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence. He is also famous for dating pop superstar Miley Cyrus after starring in the romantic-drama ‘The Last Song’ together. They announced their engagement in 2012 but broke up in 2013.
Cyrus and Hemsworth have been spotted on numerous occasions together – with Cyrus allegedly wearing her engagement ring once more – fueling speculations that the two may be back together for good. Hemsworth continued to tease his reconciliation with Cyrus during an interview with GQ Australia saying, “People will figure it out, they already have... They’re not dumb.”
‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ is an upcoming science-fiction disaster film intended as the sequel to the 1996 release of the same name. It is scheduled to be released on June 24, 2016. Its predecessor became the highest-grossing film for that year, earning $817.4 million worldwide against a $75 million budget.
