In a world where users are demanding faster and faster speeds in practically every area in tech, aspects like storage and retrieval have become among the biggest areas of focus in providing this demand. Intel recently threw a new product in the ring for faster storage capabilities with the Optane 800P, which has already taken reviewers by surprise.
Intel has been making a lot of waves recently with its Optane storage technology, which offers some of the fastest processing speeds that users could ask for, PC Mag reports. Even within this distinguished lineup, however, the 800P is a different breed. At $129, this SSD is considered a bit on the pricey side but there’s a reason for that.
Anyone who is intent on creating the most monstrous gaming rig they can as of this moment, the 800P is highly advised as a boot drive. According to benchmarks done so far, this SSD absolutely blows everything else out of the water. It even demolished the Samsung SSD 960 Evo and Intel’s own SSD 750 Series.
The biggest reason for this is the 3D Xpoint (read as “cross-point”) technology, which features a different format than other storage units in the market. Although the company has chosen to keep the specifics a secret, it’s clear that what its engineers are doing is working.
On the other hand, there are those who are not as impressed with the 800P as everyone else seems to be. PC World, for example, notes that the limited 58GB and 118GB storage capacities are a huge drawback for the storage unit. Taking that into consideration, $129 for the base price is a big ask of consumers.
Then again, there will always be those who would do anything to get the most tricked out performance they could possibly get. This includes paying for the more expensive but undeniably faster SSD.
