Proving beyond all doubt that Intel is no longer just a chip-making company that provides the means for others to create innovative technologies, Intel put on a show during the Intel Developer Forum that can online be described as a psychedelic trip to a technological Nirvana. The speech of Intel CEO Brian Krzanich further clarified exactly what the show meant; explaining that he envisions a future wherein virtual reality and actual reality can become merged and interchangeable.
As PC Mag notes, the performance before Krzanich’s speech was just one example of what the company intends to achieve down the road. With music played using digital instruments that are strange, to say the least, including an “Intel Next Unit of Computing based” DJ turntable and sticks that create beats when waved around called an "aerodrum," the opening gig showed how technology can suffuse art in the future.
Krzanich then began to talk about the concept of “Merged Reality” where virtual reality can cross over to actual reality and vice versa. This is a new concept that Intel is apparently working on and wants to bring about.
"We're truly inventing a world we can't experience today," Krzanich said.
As to how they plan to do this, one of the key aspects is the Internet of Things. For this part, one of the things that Intel unveiled and will likely play a big role is the “Joule.”
The “Joule” is essentially a high-powered IoT kit, which sports tremendous performance, Anandtech reports. The most powerful version of the kit is equipped with an “Intel Atom "Broxton-M" T5700” SoC, a “4x Goldmont @ 1.7GHz, Turbo to 2.4GHz CPU” and an “Intel Gen9” GPU.
All of these features are combined to make the “Joule” one of the most powerful IoT kits in the market. What’s more, it’s no bigger than a stick of gum.
