LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Oct. 10, 2017 -- Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN), a leading provider of advanced network communications, announced today that it has been selected by a worldwide, hyperscale cloud services provider to install twenty-one 100G optical Waves, supporting the cloud operator’s efforts to strengthen and expand its U.S. network.
This hyperscale cloud provider will leverage the newly deployed 100G routes to improve network resiliency and reduce latency by building an overlay network–a duplicate, redundant framework equal in capacity and fully diverse. Windstream’s Waves service will enable the customer to scale for future growth, while also drastically improving route efficiency. Windstream’s coast-to-coast, 150,000-mile long-haul fiber network met the customer’s strict diversity requirements – fundamental in avoiding costly, customer-impacting downtime and ensuring availability of mission-critical data and business applications.
“Windstream has a solid history of providing secure, high-bandwidth connectivity solutions to hyperscale cloud providers in search of vendor and route diversity, and delivering the reliable services they need to boost their competitive advantage,” said Mike Shippey, president of Windstream Wholesale. “Our expansive, nationwide fiber network is rich with unique low-latency route options – including those acquired with our EarthLink merger, as well as the newly completed routes in our West Coast markets. Quite simply, Windstream’s network was the differentiator for this customer, allowing them to continue advancing business innovation, growth and success.”
