President Donald Trump is known for sometimes bringing along his family on his travels abroad. For instance he brought his children - except Barron - along with their spouses when he visited Queen Elizabeth II, according to HuffPost.
But since American taxpayers are footing the bill for these foreign trips, Donald Trump’s entourage is increasingly under scrutiny by the public. For instance, many are wondering just what exactly Ivanka Trump was doing when she went along with the President during his recent trip to India.
It did not help that Ivanka Trump documented her India trip by posting photos on her social media account. The senior White House advisor uploaded a picture showing her posing in front of India’s iconic landmark, the Taj Mahal.
“The grandeur and beauty of the Taj Mahal is awe inspiring!” Ivanka caption the photo, Express reported. But the “touristy” snap was spotted by critics resulting to some rather harsh comments on social media.
Some critics even questioned why Ivanka was with Donald Trump’s entourage for his first state visit to the South Asia country. “Why are you there?” Twitter user @LuLuRoche questioned her. “What do you do, anyway? World leaders roll their eyes,” another user, @luizlemuz), wanted to know.
Others even questioned why her husband, Jared Kushner, was also with her. “Why am I paying for their 2nd honeymoon omfg,” user @AlyssaMastro44) posted.
There are also those who accused her of using US taxpayer dollars for “vacation.” “Why are taxpayers paying for your vacation?” @HelenKennedy asked.
“So glad our tax dollars could fund your sightseeing trip,” Twitter user @nee_haynes is unhappy with the trip as well. “Millions of Americans will never be able to afford a trip like that, but so happy you’re enjoying yourself at our expense.”
But not everyone was critical of Ivanka Trump visiting India. “Another beauty infront of the real beauty,” a netizen commented on Ivanka’s photo showing the Taj Mahal. “You are the one that awe inspiring @ivankatrump,” another Twitter user wrote.
The two-day trip was President Donald Trump’s first state visit to India. In a joint rally with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump announced a $3 billion arms deal as well as a developing trade agreement with the nation.
