“Jane the Virgin's” final season just can't seem to come any sooner. With the show airing its season 4 finale last April, fans have yet to receive any news about the show aside from “Jane the Virgin” season 5 being its last season. While fans may be disappointed about the coming end of the telenovela, the show's creator assures fans that there is much to anticipate about the show's fifth season.
In an interview with the The New York Times, Jennie Snyder Urman talks about what fans can expect from the plotlines of season 5. Urman mentions that “Jane the Virgin” season 5 was actually a fluke as the original show was planned for only four seasons. The amount of content that was created throughout the earlier seasons allowed for a season 5 to happen. Urman mentions that fans can expect “Jane the Virgin” season 5 to be about closing the storyline circles that were created in the show's earlier seasons.
One of the storyline closures that fans can look forward to is the Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) cancer arc, which Urman promises will definitely get wrapped up in season 5. Fans can also expect a clean conclusion to Michael's (Brett Dier) sudden return to the series in the show's season premiere. Fans should also expect more weddings to happen in “Jane the Virgin” season 5 as befitting the closure-oriented nature of the show's last season.
Urman also looks forward to having Justina Machado, Rosario Dawson and Brooke Shields as guest stars on the show. Urman also hopes that Rita Moreno, who plays Rogelio's (Jaime Camil) mother, can come back to the show for “Jane the Virgin” season 5. When asked about any guest stars that the show's creator wants to be onboard for season 5, Urman mentions that having Ricky Martin as a guest star for the show has been the writing team's dream.
“Jane the Virgin” season 5 has yet to have an official air date for its premiere episode. While the show has usually been consistent with an October air date for its season premiere, the lack of news about season 5's official air date may mean a delay for the show's last season. Fans can hopefully expect the show to return to broadcasting sometime in 2019.
