At 77 years old, former vice president Joe Biden, if he is elected in November against Donald Trump, will become the oldest president ever. However, that might not seem to stop him from running for another term as he has suggested he is open to the possibility of being a two-term president.
The Guardian reports that during an interview with ABC News, Biden has hinted being open to serve for another term should he win the November elections. When asked whether he could serve another four years as president, if he won against Trump in November, the former vice president replied, “Absolutely.”
The interview also touched on Trump’s and the Trump campaign’s constant attacks on Biden, who have often tried to depict him as mentally incompetent to become commander-in-chief. This is, despite Trump himself, often being questioned about his own mental capacity. “Watch me, Mr. President, watch me. Look at us both. Look at us both, what we say, what we do, what we control, what we know, what kind of shape we’re in. I think it’s a legitimate question to ask anybody over 70 years old whether or not they’re fit and whether they’re ready. But I just... only thing I can say to the American people, it’s a legitimate question to ask anybody. Watch me,” said Biden.
Also with Biden during the interview was his running mate, California Senator Kamala Harris, who also weighed in on Trump’s attacks against her throughout her campaign and since being announced as Biden’s running mate. Harris described the attacks as attempts to distract Americans from his negligent presidency.
Although the elections come at a time where the world is still battling a pandemic that is COVID-19, the Biden campaign has revealed that the former vice president has not been tested for the virus. However, they said that they are confident that Biden does not have it.
Campaign manager Kate Bedingfield also stated that while Biden has not been tested, he will be if deemed necessary. Bedingfield also noted that the former vice president has adhered to very strict protocols in order to avoid contracting COVID-19, and everyone in proximity to Biden has undergone testing.
