Kakao Corp. said it will join RE100, a global corporate to respond to climate change and other environmental issues, and transition to 100 percent renewable energy by 2040.
The South Korean tech giant plans to gradually increase renewable energy utilization for the operation of new internet data centers (IDCs) and headquarters.
Kakao aims to use 60 percent renewable energy by 2030, reaching 100 percent a decade later.
Kakao will also establish an advisory panel composed of professionals from various fields to promote the social value of carbon neutrality.
Last year, Kakao achieved a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts by completely transitioning the electricity usage of its headquarters in Jeju to eco-friendly solar energy.
