Looks like renowned Japanese-American singer/songwriter Hikaru Utada is teaming up with eight-time Grammy Award-winning electronic musician Skrillex for “Kingdom Hearts 3.”
In a recent press release, Square Enix confirmed the two had worked together on the opening theme song of “Kingdom Hearts 3,” and it’s scheduled to come out ahead of the game’s release.
“Skrillex, a long-time and self-professed fan of the KINGDOM HEARTS series, originally intended to remix the previously revealed Hikaru Utada track, Don’t Think Twice. However, owing to the pair’s friendship, this developed into the new and original collaboration, Face My Fears, to celebrate the game’s release,” the statement reads, via Gamasutra.
The press release revealed that producer Poo Bear collaborated on the track as well.
“Set to be released alongside Don’t Think Twice on January 18, the opening theme song, Face My Fears, has also been produced in collaboration with Poo Bear, the acclaimed record producer who previously produced Justin Bieber’s multi-platinum selling single, What Do You Mean?”
Hikaru Utada has become synonymous with the franchise since she sang the theme songs for the first two main “Kingdom Hearts” games, but Skrillex’s involvement in “Kingdom Hearts 3” is a surprise to some. The combination might seem strange, but they probably came out with a song that would satisfy long-time fans of the game.
News of the team up came days after Square Enix confirmed that Haley Joel Osment is set to return to voice Sora in “Kingdom Hearts 3.” Tony Anselmo and Bill Farmer will also return to voice Donald Duck and Goofy, respectively. The two Disney characters have been Sora’s travel companions since the first game, and they will continue to accompany him in “Kingdom Hearts 3” as he looks for a way to defeat the Heartless before the villain takes over the universe.
“Kingdom Hearts 3” is scheduled to come out on January 25, 2019, on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
